Broadband Pricing
DANCOM is now an authorised broadband reseller for People
Telecom. They have very competitive
rates and offer services that a lot of other ISP’s don’t.

How slow is dial-up modem?
56k dial up is a maximum 56k download and maximum 33.6k upload
(see next section for
definition of upload and download)
I have only ever seen a maximum of 54k on perfect phone lines.
Most people can expect
around 48k. The slowest ADSL connection is 256k!

Not sure what broadband is?
It is a connection to the internet that is always on, and
provides greater speed than regular dialup
internet. Typically 10 times the “download” speed. A download is
“receiving information”
from the internet, and upload is “sending information”. So
looking at web pages or receiving
emails is “downloading”, as is downloading music, pictures,
movies and programs from the
internet. That is the way that broadband is charged, by the
amount of information that you
download. The speed of ADSL is quoted as download/upload and
gigabytes provided. The
standard ADSL packages that are available are
256k/64k – suitable for single users that don’t need great
speed, but want better speed than
dial-up
512k/128k – suits most users and businesses. Can be shared
between multiple users without
noticing a big difference in speed.
1500k/256k – this is very fast and suitable for 5+ users or
people who just want it now!
512k/512k – this is called a synchronous connection because it
sends information at the same
rate as it receives. This is suitable if you are needing to send
information quickly, eg mail
server, web server, remote access service or VPN
